New children’s book "Gob the Gnome™: The Gnome and the Threat to the Forest" by Marilyn Slaughter, Ed.D. is released, an adorable story of a mythical being teaching kids about the forest ecosystem

“Gob the Gnome™: The Gnome and the Threat to the Forest” by Marilyn Slaughter, Ed.D., illustrated by Angie Neha has been released worldwide. This 69-page children’s book, the 2nd in Slaughter’s Gob the Gnome™ series, follows Nathan, Iris, and their mother back to Sunbrook Forest National Park, where Mommy meets Gob for the first time and the group sets off into the forest to learn about the wonderful plants and animals that live there.

As Gob and the family move through the park, the titular gnome teaches them how ants help aerate the soil, shows them the devastating effects of deforestation, and explains the interconnected ecosystem that affects the lives of all the forest creatures – including plants and humans too!

After encountering (and confronting) a man illegally chopping down trees in the national park, the family understands that protecting nature is a big job that requires everyone’s help. With Gob’s encouragement, Nathan promises to learn all he can and teach his friends about the importance of the forest.

This vibrantly illustrated story uses the fun dynamics of fantasy and family to educate readers about the serious topic of conservation, and teaches them that individual efforts can make a real difference.

Each book in the Gob the Gnome™ series shares a vital message of love and appreciation for the outdoors, and includes a glossary of terms to help kids expand their vocabulary and learn more about the environment. Inspired by her teaching career and affinity for the great outdoors, Marilyn Slaughter, Ed.D., combines science, education, and the fun of folklore to impart wisdom that applies to everyone.

Gob the Gnome™: The Gnome and the Threat to the Forest (ISBN: 9781960142849) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The hardcover retails for $33.99 and the ebook retails for $9.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.

Gob the Gnome™

This short story is about a mother wanting her children to enjoy the outdoors. This story takes Nathan, Iris, and Mommy on another trip to the national park. Nathan and Iris are extremely excited to visit with their new friend, Gob the Gnome™. Gob takes Nathan, Iris, and Mommy on a short tour of the park and Nathan sees a large empty area of the park. Gob explains to Nathan, Iris, and their mom the unfortunate realities of what happens in some parks due to human interference and natural occurrences. Gob also introduces the family to some of the animals and explains how they suffer through deforestation, tornados, and storms. In this story Iris comes to age by using what she learns from Gob to defend the forest. Since the 1400s, folklore has described gnomes as guardians of treasure and the protectors of Earth. Gnomes represent stability, growth, and good luck. This is the second book of the six-book series about Gob the Gnome™. The six books in this series all revolve around Gob, the protector of a local forest, who becomes friends with Nathan and Iris and helps to educate them on the importance of caring for the environment.
