CARES to facilitate economically weak students

The Shaheen Group of Institutions held a press conference on Thursday at Delhi. Founder of Shaheen, Dr. Abdul Qadeer, and Directors Mujtaba Farooq and Kaleemul Hafeez spoke about the economic issues that are creating obstacles for the deprived classes in their way of education due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Addressing the press conference, Mujtaba Farooq, a Social Activist said the first and the second wave of Covid-19 have badly affected the masses, especially the middle class. Many parents are unable to pay the fee due to financial constraints.

“This economic crisis will widen the gap between the students from the affluent class and the students from deprived classes. The wealthy class will avail better education facilities and the students from poor strata will suffer more. The deprived classes will lose the hope of competing for admissions in professional courses and even their dream of completing graduation will be hurt,” he added.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer, a renowned educationalist, and philanthropist in education, said they have come out with a solution with community participation, “Shaheen Cares”, a project to face the challenges after the Covid-19 pandemic. “This scheme is not to increase the admissions in Shaheen but to facilitate economically weak students, and other institutions too can adopt it. They can join hands with Shaheen to spread the concept across the country,” he added.

Shaheen CARES (Community’s Aid and Response for Educational Support)

Dr. Qadeer said they have planned to revive this age-old system during this crisis. ‘The community centers and religious places like Masajid, Baitul mal, Temples and Churches can take up this noble project. Only committees of worship places don’t need to do it; even a group of youths or concerned citizens of a particular locality can also form a committee for this purpose. Still, it’s better if channelised through places of worship. People of the locality can contribute to these funds by donating small and big amounts. Even zakat amount can be contributed. These funds will only be used for paying the fee and will not be diversified,” he added.

The founder urged to identify the economically deserving students or a Madrasa passed out who has completed Hifz or Almiat and sponsor these economically weak students by CARES fund. “Suppose the CARES fund of your locality is sponsoring any student to get education in Shaheen school or college, in Bidar or any Branch of Shaheen anywhere India. In that case, Shaheen Foundation will help the student by paying 60 percent of the total expenses and the CARES fund should bear 40 percent of expenses,” he stated.

Dr. Qadeer said they aim at helping the poor. “Let us perform one of the noblest services on the earth of providing education.”
