Marriage and Family Therapist Amanda Hale Feinberg Stresses the Importance of Coping Skills Through Therapy Amid Rising Depression and Anxiety Rates

Therapy shouldn’t be a last resort, according to marriage and family therapist Amanda Hale Feinberg. Since the pandemic began, anxiety and depression rates have skyrocketed, particularly among Gen Z and millennials, leaving many without the coping mechanisms to manage their mental health.

Therapist Amanda Hale Feinberg started her private practice with the idea that mental health should be just as important as physical health. Recent reports by the American Psychological Association show that 25 percent of Gen Z experience emotional distress at a clinical level, outpacing all other generations and nearly doubling their elders.

Amanda works with adult and adolescent clients experiencing a variety of mental health and life issues, helping them develop the coping mechanisms necessary to navigate through life with a tailored therapeutic approach. She offers talk therapy, eye movement desensitization (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), art therapy, and parent coaching.

“I strongly believe in empowering and supporting clients with transparency and honest communication,” Amanda Hale Feinberg said. “I offer a warm, direct, and empathetic environment that facilitates personal growth and provides support while clients make meaningful changes in their lives.”

Mental health issues reaching unprecedented levels

According to a recent Los Angeles Times poll, more than half of the young adults in California experience depression, with 31 percent reporting suicidal thoughts and 16 percent actively self-harming. The World Health Organization said anxiety and depression increased by 25 percent during the first year of the pandemic.

In addition to the pandemic, young adults cited rising costs of living due to inflation, war, and unsustainable housing costs as the most significant stressors. According to a recent article published by Bankrate, many millennials have delayed having children because of the rising expense of raising them, and 48 percent of the generation said financial anxiety was a primary concern.

Amanda works to treat mental health issues with psychotherapy, supporting her patients as they work toward personal growth and meaningful change. Through therapy, clients learn how to understand their anxiety and depression triggers and how to counteract them with appropriate coping mechanisms.

How therapy can help

“Every individual needs a different therapeutic approach,” Amanda said. “During the therapeutic process, I look at how our environment, life experience, and current relationships have an impact on the decisions we make.”

EMDR is a proven method to help patients process and recover from traumatic life experiences and the resulting mental issues they often leave behind, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

DBT teaches people how to live in the moment and deal with their stress in healthy ways. This therapy is ideal for those struggling to regulate emotions and maintain healthy relationships with others.

Individual talk therapy can be a useful, supportive tool for addressing major life changes like divorce, family conflict, and a variety of mental health issues. Amanda also offers specialized teen therapy to provide a supportive ally through life’s most tumultuous years and family therapy to improve relationships and strengthen bonds through troubling times.

Parent coaching identifies a specific parenting concern and Amanda works with clients to develop practical solutions to troublesome family dynamics like establishing healthy boundaries, parental hierarchy, and creating a fair system of consequences and rewards.

Conclusion

As younger generations face alarming anxiety and depression rates, Amanda Hale Feinberg seeks to emphasize that mental health is equally important as physical health. The young adults of the world have seen constant change all their lives, but the past few years have crossed the tipping point. The lack of mental health care — and the stigma attached to seeking help — will become a global crisis if left unaddressed.
